Carolyn Williamson and Paul Kitchin established WK Design Architects in 2012 having worked together for 9 years in a previous practice. We set out realising the importance of providing a personal service.
Many will offer to alter your building but WK Design Architects will work with you to maximise its potential with creativity and skill, adding value to your project.
Our designs put people at the heart of it all.
We go beyond the brief, creating light filled interiors that bring joy to the people that live, visit and work in them.
We value work with our private clients and enjoy developing a relationship of trust to ultimately produce a home or work environment, not just a house or office.
We work on contemporary and traditional buildings. We combine simple and natural materials with modern ones to fix our buildings in the present with inspiration and references to the environment and what has gone before.
We enjoy uniting the inside and outside spaces to create a place to live or work that celebrates its surroundings while creating an energy efficient and easily maintainable space.
Whether you are a private or commercial client, building can be daunting, but we are here to try and make the build process as straightforward as possible offering helpful advice along the way.
We can manage your build from inception to completion or we can provide you with a partial service.
We specialise in one-off design tailored to meet your requirements. Whether it includes work to existing historic buildings, traditional or contemporary new build, we have the expertise.
Our services include:
We are passionate about energy efficiency and have experience of delivering new build Passivhaus and low energy homes. We continuously strive to improve our knowledge and detailing for a better quality of construction on site in all of our projects.
We bring all of our creativity and knowledge to your project to realise your aspirations.
Energy Efficiency is always high on our agenda. The energy used in housing, accounts for 28% of the total energy used in the UK (2017 Energy Consumption in the UK). 60% of this is used to heat our homes.
The government are slowly changing the Building Regulations towards an increase in insulation levels and a reduction of air leakage in new build homes.
We are working with our clients to reduce energy consumption and fuel bills further on new builds and extensions with a ‘fabric first’ approach.
We understand the importance of designing and detailing spaces with a low space heating demand.
Incorporating renewable energy technologies such as solar panels and/or heat pumps can be an important consideration. However, first and foremost we try to employ the principal of avoiding the demand in the first place.
